President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has officially inaugurated the new national secondary school curriculum on Wednesday.
The new syllabus the first to be introduced in the country in the past three decades following the ouster of President Mohamed Siyad Barre’s government.
The head of state accompanied by the Minister for Education Abdullahi Godah Barre and the Governor of Banadir Omar Mohamud distributed the copies of the new textbooks at Mohamud Mire secondary school in Mogadishu.
The new curriculum for primary schools in the country was launched last year.
The President said his government through the ministry of education is committed to reforms in the sector in order to provide quality learning.
“Three million students and their teachers benefited from last year’s new curriculum implementation process and we expect to reach one million pupils in the secondary school’s syllabus across the country this year.” President Farmajo said.
The head of state added that the federal government will strengthen the monitoring and evolution process of the schools across the country to ensure the implementation of the new learning mechanisms saying the resources will be provided to achieve the goal.
