Somalia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Ahmed Isse Awad has accused UAE based logistics company DP World for disrespecting the unity and sovereignty of his country.
Speaking during an Interview with Al Araby TV Ambassador Ahmed Awad said the firm is implementing projects in the horn of the African nation without the permission of the Federal Government agencies.
He warned that interference in Somali domestic affairs has limits and necessary legal actions will be taken as per the international law if DP World will not stop the unlawful move.
“We are ready to take steps to defend our national unity just like any other country,” The Foreign Minister told UK based channel, adding “DP World has not ceased its actions but patience has limits.”
Dubai based company which specializes in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services signed contracts with semi-autonomous regions of Puntland and Somaliland to develop and manage the ports of Bosaso and Berbera respectively without the permission from the Federal Government based in Mogadishu.
In March last year, the Somali parliament unanimously voted to cancel the operations of the DP world in the country.
