Djibouti, a tiny country in the Horn of Africa region has confirmed the first coronavirus death since the outbreak was announced in the country.
The Health Ministry said in a statement on Twitter that fatality in the country was reported in the country on Wednesday.
The ministry said a patient who was suffering from heart complications died of the disease.
According to the statement, the patient who lost the battle to COVID19 has been sick since when he contracted at a hospital this month.
He was moved to intensive Care where he stayed for a week before passing away.
The statement said the country now had 140 people infected with COVID-19, while 28 people had recovered.
“The confinement measures appear to be bearing fruit but it is too early to relax our efforts,” the ministry said in a statement that also called on the population to continue to respect guidelines issued to fight the coronavirus.
