The biggest mosque in Kenyan capital, Jamia mosque has announced the suspension of congregation prayers over coronavirus precaution.
According to the mosque committee, the closure will take effect on Wednesday 18th March.
After further consultation with officials of the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Professionals and members of the Majlis Ulamaa of Jamia Masjid, the Jamia Mosque Committee has with effect from today the 18th March 2020 temporarily suspend the conduct of all congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid until further notice.” The stamen said.
The announcement came after the country registered three newly confirmed coronavirus cases.
Health minister, Mutahi Kagwe announced the confirmation of three more Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the country.
The announcement brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to seven.
Among the three new confirmed cases is a Burundian national who arrived in Kenya from Dubai on March 17.
The other two, a couple from Spain, arrived on March 4, landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi from Dubai as well.
Schools, universities and other learning institutions were shut for two weeks to curb the spread.
