Somalia sets aside USD five million to combat spread of coronavirus

Federal Government of Somalia has set aside USD five million in combating the pandemics of coronavirus in the country.

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre who made the announcement on Wednesday said the resource will help relevant government agencies in dealing with COVID-19 prevention.

“We have allocated USD five million to deal with citizens affected by the virus across the country.” PM Kheyre said.

Somali Premier also said his government is in talks with international financial institutions for help on tackling the coronavirus in the horn of the African nation.

An emergency isolation center established by the ministry of health to quarantine suspected coronavirus cases.

The chief minister said he held meeting with the representatives from the Somali chamber of commerce to weigh possible implications of the Wuhan originated virus on the economy.

Martini hospital in the capital Mogadishu was designated as a center to deal with COVID-19 patients.

So far only one Somali citizen tested positive for the virus on Monday after returning from affected countries.
