The leaders of Somalia and Kenya will meet in Nairobi to further discuss ways to strengthen bilateral and border security.
Somali head of state, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo accepted an invitation by his counterpart, President Uhuru Kenyatta delivered by a delegation led by Interior Minister, Fred Matiangi in Mogadishu on Sunday.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia his excellency, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has accepted an official invitation by his Kenyan counterpart, President Uhuru Kenyatta delivered by a delegation to Mogadishu.” Villa Somalia said in a press statement sent to newsrooms.
A brief meeting in Villa Somalia Presidential Palace between two sides focused on deliberations for addressing border tensions following clashes in the border towns of Mandera and Beled Hawo last week.
The President echoed the need for close cooperation on security and economic sectors between Mogadishu and Nairobi.
The Kenya delegation were composed of five officials led by Interior Minister, Fred Matiangi, Kenyan ambassador to Somalia, Major General RTD Lucas Tumbo, Kenyan Defense Forces Deputy Chief of Staff, Robert Kibochi while on Somali side were President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Interior and Federal Affairs Minister, Abdi Mohamed Sabriye, State Minister for Presidential Affairs, Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali Bagdadi and Villa Somalia DFirector, Nur Diriye Hersi.
