The government of United States (US) has called on both sides confronting in Somalia’s region, Gedo to deescalate the tension barely a day after Somali military clashed with militias in Beled-Hawa town.
At eight people mostly combatants from both sides died in more five hour long fighting following attack by militias led by Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur Janan, a wanted Jubbaland Security minister.
In a Twitter post, US ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto has called on all sides to disengage from armed conflict around Beled Hawo.
“We call for a peaceful political solution to the conflict. All leaders need to be patient & deescalate for the benefit of all Somalis in the region,” the ambassador said.
Monday morning, heavily armed militias attacked Beled-Hawa town near Somalia’s border with Kenya, prompting hours long fighting.
The army succeeded to bush back the militias, forcing them to flee into Kenya.
Somali government has not yet commented on the fighting in Beled-Hawa town.
