Three Somali army soldiers were killed Sunday evening in an ambush at their base in Middle Shabelle region.
Sources said the militants stormed a Somali National Army based located in Bal’aad town sparking an hour long battle.
Military sources confirmed the death of three soldiers but there was no further information of injuries.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the Sunday evening attack. This adds to increasing offensives by the militant group targeting military and civilians.
The group detonated a car bomb last week in neighboring Lafoole killing at least four people among them Turkish engineers constructing the Mogadishu- Afgooye road.
