Somaliland frees detained humanitarian Journalist

Authorities in Somaliland have on Saturday freed humanitarian Journalist, Abdimalik Muse Oldon.

The Journalist who was arrested in Burao in April last year for treason charges and held in custody at Hargeisa prison facility regained his freedom following a presidential pardon by Somaliland leader, Muse Bihi Abdi.

Speaking during a press conference shortly after his release Oldon thanked all people that worked tirelessly to ensure that he got his freedom back.

“I want to categorically appreciate the leaders of main opposition parties of Wadani and UCID plus organizations like EU parliament and the amnesty international for their efforts in advocating for my freedom.” Journalist Oldon said.

He further added that he will not take revenge but rather forgive those who arrested him.

“let’s not look back but forward by looking towards the future due to the uncertainty we are facing.”

The arrest of Abdimalik Oldon was precipitated by his visit to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, and meeting some of the leadership of the federal government of Somalia.

He advocates for strong united Somalia which is a crime under Somaliland administration.
