Somali PM Appoints New Director for National ID Authority

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre has announced the appointment of a new managing director for the National Identification Authority (NID).

The Premier appointed Mukhtar Hussein Mohamed to lead the authority in reviving the significant national office which is key to national security.

“I have appointed Mr. Mukhtar Hussein Mohamed as the managing director for the National ID Authority project and to establish the agency in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs.” The PM said in a tweet.

Mr. Mukhtar previously served at the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) before his new position.

Somalia and Pakistan signed USD 10.500 million agreement on March 2018 in the provision of technical assistance for the development of Somalia’s National Identification System.

In the agreement, Pakistan’s National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) will develop and supply technology, software, and equipment which will enable the Government of Somalia to have a state-of-the-art national data and citizen registration system.

The knowledge and technology transfer would also help Somalia in Border Management and Elections Management system.
