Somali Govt sets new security measures near presidency after SYL attack

The Federal Government of Somalia has introduced new security measures around heavily fortified Presidential Palace to prevent al-Shabaab attacks.

According to new procedures, armed soldiers must be accompanied by senior officials or approved by the state house security office before access.

The move follows after four al-Shabaab gunmen attacked SYL hotel which is near the Presidential palace last week.

The attackers who were dressed in police uniforms accessed the heavily fortified area on foot.

Ten people including two security officers were killed in the attack that lasted for more than seven hours.

Eleven other people were wounded.

Somali capital experienced relative calm in the past four months from al-Shabaab car bomb attacks following increased security checkpoints across the city by the security agencies.

The move aimed at reducing attacks has not gone well with many including motorists that take a lot of time in security checks while accessing the city center.
