Shabaab fighter surrenders to police in Mandera

Al-Shabaab fighter has this morning surrendered to authorities in Mandera county.

Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kathya said Salat Hajir Jimale, 23, has surrendered to security agencies at Elwak town in Mandera South. Salat turned himself in to the agencies on Thursday.

The suspect is being held at Elwak Police Station for interrogation before he is transfered.

“Al-Shabaab member with an AK 47 rifle and three magazines fully loaded is in our custody,” Mr Kathya said.

The move comes barely a day after three passengers travelling to Nairobi were killed in an al-Shabaab attack in Mandera county. The attack also caused injuries to seven others.
