Kenya forces on Monday arrested a Somali-Canadian who was suspected to have been carrying out surveillance on a military in Nairobi’s Eastliegh neighbourhood.
The suspect who was identified as Abdinasir Abudule is said to have been arrested following tips off by the public.
According to the statement, the officer on duty at the base alerted his team and it is then that they rushed to Joster Supermarket and managed to seize the suspect on arrival.
Police say he had no identification on him.
“His mobile phone, an iPhone make, was seized. It had several pictures and videos suspected to have been taken within Eastleigh area and are now kept as exhibit,” police said.
The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting collection by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) who will conduct further investigations.
The move came hours after Kenyan police arrested three men who tried to break into a British army camp in Laikipia in central Kenya,.
The break-in attempt at Laikipia, which was captured on a security camera, failed and the three men were subsequently arrested.
They are being questioned by anti-terrorism officers.
