Suspected al-Shabaab fighters have abducted four people from Mandera country near Kenya’s border with Somalia, official confirmed.
In a Twitter, Ibrahim Ali Roba, the governor of Mandera county expressed concern over the deteriorating security in his county.
Roba said the fighters raided a village called Jabibar on Wednesday amid the county is hosting hundreds of fighters of Jubbaland state.
Jubbaland forces have been in Mandera town since last January in order to attack the federal government forces in Beled-Hawa and other parts of Gedo rwgion.
The governor also confirmed the militants from al-Shabaab made away with a vehicle Belonging the government of Kenya.
“As we entertain foreign forces in Mandera, Al-Shabaab are having field day in the county. Today five incidences happened at Jabibar within 3 straight hours uninterrupted by our security forces. 4 people have been abducted and their whereabouts unknown. One KEMSA vehicle was burnt,” said Roba.
Roba stated that the situation was not improving in the county.
“Last night (Tuesday night) there were gunshots along the border believed to be from Janan forces. Today the public have reported two lorries carrying Janan troops heading to Mandera along B9/A13 Road,” Roba confirmed.”The situation is still unstable. Jubaland forces are still holed up within Mandera town .”
