Former Hiiraan region governor Abdirahman Ibrahim Ma’ow was last nighy shot dead in Somalia capital, Mogadishu.
According to multiple sources, the deceased was shot dead after leaving a mosque in a neighbourhood in Wadajir District.
“The deceased was walking just fews metres away ahead of me when two young men wielding pistol shot him in the head,” a witnesses said.
In a statement posted on its affiliate media, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the shooting death of former governor Maow who was well know politician.
The victim reportedly arrived in Mogadishu recently to start campaign to seek a parliamenyary seat.
in 2006, Maow was top official of the defunct Islam Court before he defected to Hisbul Islam which was then led by Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys.
