The bodies of nine medical workers who were allegedly abducted by the militant group Al-Shabaab Wednesday were found today in the outskirts of Bal’ad town in Middle Shabelle region.
According to a Facebook post by HirShabelle State spokesman Da’ud Haji Irro, the medical workers were abducted by Al-Shabaab and killed.
He however did not provide details on circumstances that led to their abduction of the nine whose bodies were recovered in Galoley village located some eight kilometres from Bal’ad town.
The decease medical workers are reported to have been working in medical centres in Bal’ad and Galoley in Middle Shabelle region.
Al-Shabaab has in the past targeted medical workers in their terror campaigns in various parts of the country.
There is yet no official statement from HirShabelle government on the abduction and death of the medical workers.
