Al-Shabaab kidnaps two traders near Somalia-Kenya border

Al-Shabaab fighters have abducted two khat traders in Garissa county near Kenya’s border with Somalia.

The two identified as Abdulahi Isaack Harun and Abdi Hassan Ilkaase were transporting khat to Liboi town.

According to police, al-Shabaab waylaid the traders at Wardeglo Dam village on Thursday and are believed to have been taken to Somalia.

Kenya security forces have launched operations to search for the hostages and their vehicle.

Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the abduction of the tow people.

The group’s fighters have been carrying out attacks in Kenya since 2011, forcing the government of Kenya dispatch its troops to fight al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia.
