US Government has welcomed efforts by Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to include other regional state leaders in Mogadishu following demand by Puntland and Jubbaland leaders.
In a tweet, US ambassador to Somalia Donald Yamamoto said it is a good step taken to invited other leader to participate the talks in Mogadishu.
“The US embassy in Somalia appreciate Villa Somalia for bringing FMS leaders together in Mogadishu,” a tweet from the embassy read in part.
Yamamoto also hailed Galmudug’s Ahmed Qoorqoor for ‘leadership on Dhusamareb 3 process.
The sentiment of the US envoy come hours after report of invitation emerged.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has reportedly invited all federal member state leaders to attend Mogadishu.
According to sources privy to the development, President Farmajo agreed the leaders to come to Mogadishu to participate another round of talks.
Previously, Jubbaland and Puntland leaders, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe and Saed Abdullahi Deni had demanded other regional leaders to be included the talks.
The meeting whose exact date was not mentioned will focus on the upcoming elections as the mandate of government is coming to an end late this year.
In meeting in Dhusameeb town mid last month, Somali federal government and its member states with exclusion of Jubbaland and Puntland inked a new agreement to elections conducted via a system known as constituency caucuses, which could improve on the traditional.
According to a communique in Dhusameeb last Month, president Farmajo and leaders of Galmudug, Hirshabelle and Southwest states agreed each Caucus of 301 delegates will elect each MP.
The agreement stipulates that delegates will be nominated jointly by national and federal state electoral bodies.
The agreement indicates that deal will have to be approved by House of the People of Parliament.
