Somali elite forces have captured unknown number of suspects in an operation in Lower Shabelle region.
According to the state-owned media, 16th Battalion of Somalia’s Danab forces have raided al-Shabaab controlled villages near Lego town in lower shabelle region.
The forces nabbed several suspected al-Shabaab fighters.
There was resistance by al-Shabaab fighters during the operation, as reported the media.
The move comes barely after Somali military wrested control of a village in Kismayo, Lower Jubba region from Al-Shabaab.
A military official quoted by the state media said the Forces had taken control of Janaay Abdalle located some 60 kilometers west of Kismayo.
The official added ‘several’ militants were killed and others captured alive.
The capture of Janaay Abdalle adds to an increasing number of localities in the Lower Shabelle and Jubba regions which have fallen off the stranglehold of the militant group.
