Somalia’s Attorney-General Suleiman Mohamud has expressed the need for the urgency to combat corporate, individual and government corruption in the country.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Mohamud vowed to continue fight graft saying his currently investigates dozens of officials from ministries, agencies, foreign missions and banks.
He said his office is committed to undertake an aggressive campaign against fraud and abuse of public trust.
“We have to fight impunity and corruption seriously and without fear or favour,” he said.
He urged the civil servants in different parastatals to work with office in the fight against corruption saying, ‘the custodians of public properties should be responsible.’
” The workers of the ministries should make sure not to add signature to dubious and sham documents, we urge you report the matter straight to my office,” he said.
The remarks of the attorney general come amid close a dozen high officials sent to penitentiary after convicted stealing public property and misuse of public offices.
