Somalia’s international partners have welcomed talks in Djibouti between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and President Muse Bihi Abdi.
“We welcome the commitment of the two leaders to continue the dialogue.” The statement said.
The talks hosted by President Ismail Omar Guelleh which commenced on Sunday was also attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, US ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto, IGAD secretary-general DR. Workneh Gebeyehu.
The joint statement by the European Union, IGAD, UK, US, Egypt said it is a step forward in the right direction while calling upon the technical committee established to deliver tangible results.
“We welcome the meeting as an important step in strengthening communication and fostering understanding and encourage the technical committee named by the principals to deliver tangible benefits for their people. “
A fourteen-member technical committee, seven members each from Mogadishu and Hargeisa were entrusted by parties to represent their interests.
Somalia team is led by Interior Minister, Abdi Mohamed Sabriye while Foreign Minister Yassin Hajji Mohamud Faratoon will head Somaliland side.
The two leaders expressed their confidence in the work of the technical committee.
