Mandera county has imposed total lockdown following discovery of two Coronavirus cases in the county which borders with Somalia.
The county has so far quarantined at least 30 people who had contact with the patients.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mandera county governor, Ali Ibrahim said his government is committed to fight against the deadly coronavirus in Mandera County.
The governor stated that the authorities are still tracing more people who are suspected to have met with the patients.
He said his government has imposed day and night curfew to curb the spread of COVID19.
“Covid-19 doesn’t spread by itself but through the movement of people. As such we are left with no choice but to order a lockdown within the county,” he said.
Governor Roba said the tracing of travellers in the Makka bus had been difficult as some alighted along the way.
According to the government, the confirmed cases – a man and a woman – returned from Europe and stayed in Kilifi before proceeding to Mandera.
In his address to the press, the county chief said his administration was facing many challenges in the process of finding the contacts.
“The contact tracing continues despite the challenges. Some patients disembarked before reaching Mandera and the phone contacts of some were not captured in the manifest,” he said.
