Somali gov’t lifts ban on flights for two days

The government of Somalia has temporary lifted the ban on international flights for a period of two days.

According to the Ministry of transport and civil aviation, the temporary move is aimed to allow Somali nationals stranded in various airports to return back home.

“Due to requests from Somali nationals stranded in various airports across the globe, we temporarily lifted the ban to allow them back home.” The Ministry said in a statement.

“however the ban on international flights for two weeks will remain effect after two days.” The statement added.

The transport and aviation authority also noted that the passengers returning back into the country will undergo coronavirus screening as per the direction of the ministry of health before allowed into the country.

It also underlined that humanitarian cargo flights particularly medicine and foodstuff will be granted permission into the airspace.

The government has shut down learning activities across the country last week in an effort to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in the country. One Somali national has tested positive.
