Somalia suspends flights after first COVID-19 confirmed case

The government of Somalia has suspended all international flights into the country after recording its first case of COVID-19 on Monday.

Transport and Civil Aviation Minister, Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar announced the two-week ban soon after the confirmation of the COVID-19 case following an emergency cabinet meeting.

The ban is set to take effect from 18 March according to Mr. Omaar restrictions will not affect humanitarian and emergency cases.

Countries such as Turkey, UAE, Djibouti, Kenya, Qatar, and Ethiopia have direct flights to Somalia.
