Turkish government has condemned the deadly twin bombings in Somalia’s central region,
In a statement, the Turkish foreign ministry has extended condolence to the families and relatives of the victims killed in killed twin bombings in Mahas town in the Hiiraan region.
“We are deeply saddened to learn that many people lost their lives and were injured in the terrorist attack that took place today (4 January) at the central Mahas in the Hiraan district of Somalia. Some of the wounded are under treatment at the Mogadishu Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital,” the statement reads in part.
“We condemn this heinous terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms and wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, extend our condolences to the relatives as well as to the friendly and brotherly people and the Government of Somalia, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
Türkiy pledged that it will continue to stand by Somalia in its fight against terrorism.
The blasts claimed the lives of over 30 people including 9 people from the same family. Dozens others were also wounded in the explosions.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying its fighters targeted military bases in the town.
