At least 600 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and hundreds were wounded in weeklong fighting with Ethiopian forces near the Ethiopian border with Somalia, Ethiopia’s Somali regional state leader confirmed.
Addressing to the regional state parliament, Mustafa Mohamed Cagjar said the security forces defeated Al-Shabaab fighters.
“We believe that 600 Al-Shabaab have been killed in the operations that have been going on these days, until yesterday,” said the president.
On Saturday, the Ethiopian military claimed to have killed three top leaders of Al-Shabaab.
The Ethiopian forces reportedly killed the three key Al-Shabab leaders in the latest operation in the Southeastern Part of the country bordering the Somalia region.
The trio were identified as Fu’ad Mohamed (also known as Shanqole), the coordination of Al-Shabab, AbdulAziz Abu Musa (Al-Shabaab spokesman), and Ubeda Nur Isse, the head of Al-Shabaab forces along the Ethiopian border
