Nairobi based businessman and owner of Halla Airlines, Haji Ibrahim Hillowle has refuted reports that the airliness was registered by Somali government amid claims that it landed in Israel which has diplomatic ties with Somalia.
In an interview with VOA, Hillowle admitted that the airlines which he claimed were registered in Kenya carried cargo to Israel. Adding that if it was Somalia registered, it would not be able to fly to Israel.
The remarks of the owner comes a day after the local media in Somalia claimed that Halla Airlines’ Boeing 737-200 took off from Luxor, Egypt and landed in Tel Aviv.
This comes more than a year after Somali government announced the registration of two airlines for the first time in over three decades.
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said it had issued certificates of aircraft registration to Freedom Airlines and Hala Airlines.
The two airlines would have therefore bear the 6O (Six Oscar) prefix on their aircrafts, a move which would be contrary to the remarks of Halla Airlines owner.
So.ali government which previously announced the registration of the airlines has not yet commented on the issue.
