Somali military court executed a government soldier Saturday accused of killing a former minister in 2017.
Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi reportedly mistook the car of former Public Works Minister, Abas Abdullahi Siraji for an al-Shabaab vehicle and killed him near the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
The soldier was sentenced to death in May 2017 for killing the minister. Abdi who was escorting the Auditor General was executed by firing squad in Mogadishu.
Siraji, 31, the youngest cabinet minister in Somalia’s history – was the public works minister under former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire.
The minister grew up in a Kenyan refugee camp and was the country’s youngest minister.
