At least five people have been killed and several others wounded in heavy explosion outside Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to witnesses, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have planted on the roadside has targeted former district official Hussein Jibril.
The blast reportedly killed five people including three bodyguards of the official.
Four others including Hussein have also sustained injuries and they rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.
The blast comes hours after heavy armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed a military base in Afgoye town.
Sources confirmed that the fighting which lasted for hours claimed lives of at least five combatants including four al-Shabaab fighters.
Afgoye, an agricultural town in Lower Shabelle region lies 30km west of Mogadishu.
