AU mission in Somalia has strongly condemned an explosive attack on its convoy near the Somali capital on Sunday.
The convoy was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Bakala Soqola junction, south of the city.
According to AMISOM press release, one civilian who was near the scene of the attack was killed as a result of the blast.
“AMISOM strongly condemns the attack on its convoy and presents its condolences to the family of the deceased.”
The peacekeeping mission further stated that it has launched an investigation into the incident while establishing the exact number of casualties.
“AMISOM is investigating the matter to fully establish the circumstances in which the unfortunate incident happened and the overall number of casualties.”
It added that the mission will continue its mandate to support the Somali government in its fight against the armed group al Shabaab.
“The AU Mission in Somalia remains steadfast and will continue to fight terrorism side-by-side with its Somali counterparts in pursuit of peace and stability for the country.”
