At least three people including suspected al-Shabaab suicide bomber and two new recruits were killed and several others sustained injuries after a man blew himself near the gate of Turkish-run military training academy in Mogadishu.
According to the spokesperson of Somali information ministry, Ismail Mukhtar Omar, the suicide bomber approached at the training centre, disguising as recruit.
He says the attacker was detected before he manages to join the queue in the ongoing recruitment exercise at the facility.
“Three people, including a suicide bomber, were killed in an explosion outside TurkeySom Training School, the Army suspected and shot (the suicide bomber). One of the victims was a student who wanted to join the army and the other was a pedestrian,” the official said.
The facility which was built by the Turkish government at a reported cost of $50 million is located along the Indian Ocean strip in Mogadishu some 5 kilometres from Aden Adde Airport.
