Covid-19: 559 patients recover from Coronavirus in Somalia

At least 559 Somali people who contracted Coronavirus have recovered from the disease, Health Ministry confirmed.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said the recoveries increasing day after days thanks to efforts to health officials at the centres.

The minister said 27 patients were discharged from health facilities in the last 48 hours.

According to the statement, the country also recorded 66 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 2,579.

Fawziya Abikar, Somali Health Minister said the majority of the cases were recorded in north and south of the Horn of Africa nation.

The statement reads that Somaliland recorded 46 new cases, Puntland with 12 while Banadir region has five, with remaining three cases being recorded in Southwest and Jubbaland, two and one respectively.

The minister said two patients succumbed to respiratory disease as the total number of fatalities remains at 87.

The World Health Organization said on Friday it plans to roll out the early warning, alert and response network to an additional 230 health centers from the current existing 533 reporting sites.
