At least 14 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and over a dozen others wounded after clashes with the Somali military in central Somalia.
According to the Somali military, the government forces conducted a security operation in an al-Shabaab-controlled village near Adan Yabaal town in the Middle Shabelle region.
“Somali military has successfully conducted security operation to target the Khawarij fighters who were re-organising themselves in Majagan village near Adan Yabaal town,” the statement reads in part.
The forces recovered weapons, ammunition and medical kits.
The development comes as the government intensified operations against Al-Shabaab in south-central Somalia.
Last week, the government forces and local clan militias recaptured Adan Yabaal town, an al-Shabaab stronghold town which lies 225km.
The town which is a strategic town in the Middle Shabelle region was under the group for six years.
