Somaliland arrests nine emirate men for illegal hunting

Somaliland law enforcement have arrested nine Emeriti men who allegedly carried out illegal hunting in Somaliland of Somalia’s northern part.

Speaking to the media, the director of the wildlife department of Somaliland Environment ministry, Nasir Hussein said the suspects were arrested after the police officers got a tip-off.

“The police have detained nine suspects from the United Arab Emirates for hunting wildlife without having a licence from the authorities,” he said.

According to Nasir, the suspects were nabbed at Hargeisa Airport while planning to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Nasir vowed that the suspects will face justice for carrying out illegal hunting Somaliland.

Photos surfaced on social media have shown the suspects at the airport with luggage.

The government of the UAE has not yet commented on the arrest of the suspects.
