Somali government has expressed its support for China’s sovereignty, calling for “adherence to relevant united Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) resolutions following the US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi controversial visit to Taiwan.
In a statement, Somalia’s foreign ministry said the federal government of Somalia declared its full solidarity with the People’s Republic of China in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somalia also affirmed its firm position to respect the one-China policy, saying it considers Taiwan an inalienable part of China’s territory.
In the statement, the government said Somalia has long-standing relations with China where cooperation between the friendly countries is distinguished in the political, economic and development fields of common benefit.
The statement by Somali government comes as U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan this week lasted 24 hours and deteriorated the relations between US and China government.
