Somali National army repels al-Shabaab attack on Janaale town

Somali National army has engaged al-Shabaab fighters following an attack on a military base in Janale town in the Lower Shabelle region.

In a statement, the Somali army said its forces killed several Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded several others.

According to the statement, the military also recovered weapons and medical equipment.

Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the attack on the military base in Janale town.

The attack comes amid Somali forces backed by AU forces intensified operations against the group in central and southern Somalia.

Al-Shabaab currently controls several small towns and villages in the south and central Somalia.

The group also launches attacks on bases of AU and Somali troops outside the Somali capital, capital, Mogadishu.
