The security of Mogadishu, Somali capital will be beefed up ahead of EID festival and the country’s presidential elections, police confirmed.
The country’s police commissioner, Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar said that the police force will double efforts to tighten the security of Mogadishu during Eid days.
Hijaar who was chairing a national security meeting, said several police officers had been killed at the same time last year in attacks in Mogadishu.
The police chief said more efforts were needed to ensure election security and Eid al-Fitr festival, adding that anti-government groups were always trying to disrupt security.
Hijaar urged the government forces to work on improving the security and secure the city in order the presidential election take place peacefully.
Hijaar’s comments came days after the Somali security minister suspended Hijaar, accusing him of interfering in parliamentary leadership election process.
