SNA kills 10 Al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia

At least 10 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several others wounded following fierce heaving fighting with Somali elite forces in southern Somalia.

SNA commander of the 16th Danab Unit in the region, Arab Dheg Ahmed, who led the operation told Radio Mogadishu that the Al-Shabab commander was also arrested during operations conducted near Yaq-Halul village, about 55 km from Kismayo.

“Two AK-47 rifles and one PKM rifle were recovered from the terrorists,” Ahmed said.

Somali government forces in cooperation with troops from African Union have intensified operations against al-Shabab in south and central Somalia.

The operations are aimed at liberating villages and towns under the control of al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting Somali government for more than a decade.

The group which once was in control large swath territory in south and central Somalia lost control of many towns and villages including the capital, Mogadishu following fierce fighting with Somali forces.
