Somalia’s newly President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has today officially assumed office following transfer of power ceremony at the Presidential Palace.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the immediate President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has congratulated the incoming president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Farmaajo confirmed that over nearly 5,000 cadets secretly sent to Eritrea for training between 2019 and 2020.
Incoming president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said his administration will ensure Somali troops stationed in Eritrea return back to omalia “soon”.
President Mohamud said the troops will play an important role in liberation of territories under Al-Shabaab control.
Mohamud has uphill task of strengthening the security, ressolving the recurrent political crisis as well as the fight against al-Shabaab, which remained a potent threat since 2007.
Mohamud was served as president between 2012 and 2017 before he was defeated by Farmaajo in vote held in 2017.
