Unknown number of Burundi soldiers working under the framework of African Union Transitional Mission (Atmis) are feared dead after heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed their base in Middle Shabelle region.
Initial reports confirmed that al-Shabaab fighters staged a dawn attack which started with suicide bombings at the front gate of the base located in Elbaraf village. The group fighters then stormed the base from different directions.
Heavy fighting between the sides ensued which lasted for more than two hours.
AU has not commented on the attack on its base in Somalia.
