Somalia’s federal ans regional leaders have agreed to unite in the fight against al-Shabaab fighters in southcentral Somalia.
In a five-point communique issued on Wednesday night following three-day meeting in Mogadishu, the National Consultative Council (NCC) leaders commended SNA and the clan militias for liberating dozens of towns and villages in central and central Somalia
“The National Consultative Council is once again commending Somali forces for their tireless efforts to liberate the country from al-Shabaab,” the communique reads in part.
The Council also expressed its gratitude to the people and authorities of Hirshabelle and Galmudug for their outstanding achievements in combating al-Shabaab.
Somali leaders confirmed that the offensive against al-Shabaab would soon kick off in Southwest and Jubbaland states.
Al-Shabaab fighters has recently lost many towns and villages following fierce fighting with Somali forces backed by clan militias in south-central Somalia.
The government also claimed to have killed hundreds of fighters in the months long operations against al-Shabaab.
Despite losing many towns to allied forces, the group still conducts deadly attacks in major towns controlled by Somali government including the capital Mogadishu.
