Somalia on Thursday executed two al-Shabaab convicts, latest series of IS and al-Shabaab members amid the country launched operations against al-Shabaab fighters in south and central Somalia.
In a statement, Somali military court said it executed Abdulle Ahmed Mudey, 24, and Omar Adan Mohamed, 29 who were sentenced to death for assassinating two Somali security officers in 2019.
Today’s execution of the two will be tenth one since last month, a move seems to be meant to send message to al-Shabaab and IS sleeper cells in the major towns.
On Tuesday, a military court in Galkayo town executed Abdullahi Ali Adan was identified as the murderer of a US-trained Danab soldier in the town.
Late last week, the court also executed three al-Shabaab convicts.
The men were executed by firing squad at General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu.
According to Somali military court papers, the executed convicts are Hassan Ali Moallim Barre, Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle and Isack Kerow.
The military court found Hassan Ali Moalim guilty of detonating car bomb in Wadajir market in November 2018. The explosion killed 12 people.
Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle for delivering IED that killed Mahaas deputy mayor in 2019 while Isack Keerow Adan was convicted for hurling a grenades at Suq-ba’ad and Weydow in 2020. The blast killed two people.
The government also executed two others who were convicted of being IS members last month.
