Jubbaland state leader, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe has vowed to intensify operations to liberate areas under al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia.
Addressing the media, Madobe said the regional forces in cooperation with Somali national army will soon launch operations.
“We will soon increase operation to liberate operations to take control of areas under al-Shabaab militant group in Jubbaland state,” Madobe said.
The leader has urged the newly elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to work with Jubbaland state in the fight against al-Shabab.
Al-Shabab controls parts of Lower, Upper Jubba and Gedo regions.
The group also carries out deadly attacks on major towns and military bases in south and central Somalia.
Somalia with support of African Union troops has been fighting the group for more than a decade.
Despite deadly attacks, the group was weakened following heavy fighting with So.ali army backed by AU forces.
The group lost the control of the capital, Mogadishu in 2011 following days long fierce fighting.
