Authorities in Somali Regional State in Ethiopia have pardoned 221 prisoners, the region’s Minister of Justice Ahmed Haji Samater confirmed.
According to the minister, the inmates, who were being held in various jails in the Somali Regional State.
The minister also said that the prisoners pardoned by the President have met the required conditions, such as not being a threat to the security of the area and the community.
Samatar noted that the pardoned prisoners were also convicted, previously sentenced, and did not include those who have not yet been convicted.
The region’s move coincide with the Eid Festival.
