Somalis show support for George Floyd

People in Hargeisa, the capital of the self-declared state of Somaliland have voiced their support to ongoing protest in the US over the killing of George Floyd by the police.

Photos of mostly young people with the late George Floyd pictures and hashtag black lives matter were circulated in the media.

The protesters called for justice for the family of the late family while holding Mr. Floyd portraits.

Similar support was also witnessed in the capital Mogadishu on what seemed to be online support where young boys with the slogan of black lives matter along the beach in the Somali capital.

The Somali communities in Minnesota were praised for their role in taking part in the peaceful demonstration against US police brutality against minority communities.

Restaurants owners provided free meals to protesters in the twin cities of Minneapolis.

a 46-year-old George Floyd died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a white police officer named Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes while he was handcuffed face down in the street.
