Somalia and Ireland have agreed to enhance ties between the two countries after officials from the two countries held talks in Egypt.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been in Sharm el-Sheikh to participate in the COP-27 World Climate Conference.
During his stay, the president met with leaders from different countries to discuss ways their relations With the Horn of Africa nation.
The President met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Republic of Ireland, Mr Simon Coveney.
The two agreed to work on boosting the cooperation between the countries with President Mohamud lauding Ireland for being the frontline to Somalia when the country was struggling with external conflicts and difficult living conditions.
During their discussion, Mr Simon expressed his government’s commitment to helping Somalia fight al-Shabaab.
Somalia has been at war with al-Shabaab fighters since this year. The government forces in collaboration with local militias have engaged in deadly clashes with al-Shabaab fighters in south-central Somalia.
According to the country’s information ministry, the allied forces liberated dozens of villages and towns in the Hiiraan, Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions.
