About twenty candidades vying for Somalia’s presidency will today make speeches head of the presidential elections which are scheduled early next week.
In a statement, the join parliamentary committee assigned to organise the presidential poll confirmed that 39 candidates had been registered among them the incumbent, former presidents, ex-PMs, a female candidate, former Mogadishu mayor and former AP journalist.
According to the list released by the committee, 20 presidential hopfuls including immediate former prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheire today be given 15 minutes to table their manifestations and convince the joint parliament.
The remaining 19 candidates including the current President, two former presidents, former prime minister and current leader of Puntland state, former Mogadishu mayor will make their 15 minutes speeches.
The registration of the candidates was concluded Tuesday with announcement of the total hopefuls seeking to grab the country’s top job position.
Twenty-two of the presidential hopefuls – including President Farmajo – registered on Monday.
Each candidate paid a $40,000 registration fee, which raised 1,560,000 that the electoral commission collected.
The members of the joint house will new president next Sunday, May 15, at the Afisioni Tent in Mogadishu.
