Two al-Shabaab fighters killed in US strike

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said it killed two al-Shabaab fighters near the port city of Kismayo, Lower Juba province on Tuesday.

Statement from AFRICOM said the airstrike was carried out after militants attacked a Somali patrol northwest of Kismayo.

“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S Africa Command conducted an airstrike on Al-Shabaab insurgents after Lower Juba Province, Somalia on Sept. 17.”

“At this time, it is assessed the airstrike killed two (2) terrorists.”

US military said there were no civilian casualties as per their assessment after the air operation.

“Currently, we assess no civilians were injured or killed as the result of this airstrike.”
AFRICOM said it continues to work with Somali armed forces and AMISOM to degrade the group.

“In support of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. forces will use all effective and appropriate methods to assist in the protection of the Somali people, including partnered military counterterrorism operations with the Federal Government of Somalia, AMISOM, and Somali National Army forces,” AFRICOM said.
