Somali police are eyeing to join African Police organization which is expected to be formed in Algeria
The Afripol was launch in 2017 by police chiefs from African countries but was not active.
African police leaders from countries and officials of regional and international police bodies to strengthen the body.
Speaking to the government-owned media, Somali Police Chief, Abdi Hassan Mohamed said Somali police officials were dispatched to attend the conference to discuss the formation of the continental police body.
“We are expecting soon to join Afripol as we have already representative at an ongoing conference in Algeria, Somali police is a member of Interpol, we have our Interpol office in Mogadishu,” he said.
The founding agreements of Afripol were ratified by the 28th Summit of the African Union held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in late January 2017.
In September 2013, the project to establish Afripol was launched during the 22nd Pan-African Regional Seminar of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) in Algeria, which was chosen as the headquarters of the organization.
