Somali PM laid foundation for Galkayo peace centre

Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre laid foundation stone for a building that will host Galkayo peace centre on Wednesday.

The premier praised the local administration for the initiative which is key to peace building in the southern city while urging them to double the peace efforts and make them national agenda.

” United Galkayo means united Somalia, peaceful Galkayo means peaceful Somalia,” The PM told the participants during the launch.

Representatives from Puntland and Galmudug regional states administration attended the event spearhead by the premier.

Once completed, Galkayo peace centre will be a base for peace activists and peace makers including traditional leaders and community representatives in order to foster reconciliation.

Galkayo has previously experienced tribal related violence in recent years, but efforts by locals via the federal government have led to the calm to prevail.
